July 12th Detroit River BFL 2nd Place and Big Bass
July 12th Michigan Division BFL on the Detroit River turned out to be a really good tournament for me even though my pre-tournament practice wasn’t really that good. Thursday I fished the Detroit River with only a few areas producing fish. So I wasn’t really too excited about what I found in the river. Friday’s practice wasn’t all that much better spent the day fishing around Pelee Island which I haven’t really fished around too much over the last few years. As my practice partner and I made our way out to Pelee the winds were from the Southeast about 15 mph so I wasn’t the most pleasant ride out there. Fished a few of the reefs that I have had success fishing in the past and caught a few 3 to 3-1/2 lb. fish but nothing that would make me drive back out there on Saturday morning. I really didn’t want to make that long ride to St.Clair so I decided to stick it out in the river fishing the tips of Island and spots that I haven’t fished in years and it turned out to be a really good day.
I managed to catch 21 lbs. even and a 5 lb. – 2 oz. Smallmouth that made it for Big Bass.
